Every year, the first full week of November is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week to promote awareness of our local shelters. Given that November is also the month we celebrate Thanksgiving, I think it’s the perfect time to focus on giving thanks to all those who work at and support their local shelter. What can we, as community members, do to give back? Keep reading to find out!
Below are items that shelters are always in need of to care for their pets. Check your local shelter’s website to see if they have a customized wishlist, and if they don’t, call them directly and ask what they need this holiday season.
· Paper Towels
· Snap collars (all sizes)
· 4-foot and 6-foot nylon leashes
· Kong’s
· Potty pads
· Dog and Cat food (check with your local shelter to learn their preferred brands)
· Scoopable Cat Litter
· Cat Litter Pans and Scoops
· Stainless Steel Pet Food Bowls
· All Sizes Garbage Bags (especially 13 and 31 Gallon Sizes)
· Cleaning Supplies
· Gift Cards for Gas, Pet Stores, Target, Walmart, etc.
· Towels and Blankets
· Toys
